(Daily Californian) (UWIRE) BERKELEY, Calif. -- UC Berkeley junior Gina Cariveau arrived in class with her bag, notebook and pens just in time to take her pop quiz. She looked like any other student around her apart from one thing -- her eight-year-old son sitting by her side.

"I had to take my son with me to class because he was suffering from pneumonia and couldn't be left at home," said Cariveau, who has two sons, Christopher, 15, and Clayton, 8. "I had missed four days of school already and had no other alternative."
