Texas Instruments, which makes chips used in about half the world's cellphones, has lowered its range of expected profits and sales in the first quarter, citing a major customer's decision to cut orders.

Company officials declined Monday to identify the customer, other than to indicate it was a maker of cellphones.
The news caused shares in the world's top cellphone maker, Nokia - a major customer of Texas Instruments - and several other European technology firms to fall Tuesday.
