Article: U. South Dakota's American Indian Studies seeks national reputation

(Volante) (UWIRE) VERMILLION, S.D. -- With more than 10 percent of South Dakota's population being American Indian, it would only seem right to have one of the state's only American Indian Studies departments here at the University of South Dakota.

There are approximately 20 to 25 students with American Indian Studies majors as well as 15 students with American Indian Studies minors. The major can also be set up as a double major.

Elizabeth Castle, an assistant professor for the Department of American Indian Studies said USD's department is unique.
