Walk into the admissions office at Phillips Academy Exeter, one of the top boarding schools in the United States, and the first thing you will see is a wall-sized map of the world studded with pins to mark the homes of prospective students.
The most intense clusters are in New England, as you might expect at the 227-year old New Hampshire institution, and in East Asia. South Korea in particular is almost eclipsed by pins.
