After months of slowing its boats to save energy, Casco Bay Lines plans to add a 50-cent surcharge on all tickets in response to diesel fuel prices that have spiked to a record level.
"As a percentage of the budget, fuel costs have just mushroomed," said Nicholas Mavadones, operations manager for the ferry line that serves the major islands of Casco Bay.
