(The University Star) (UWIRE) SAN MARCOS, Texas -- Students gathered for Deaf World in the LBJ Student Center Tuesday night. The American Sign Language club hosted the event, which aimed to increase awareness about deaf culture.

Rudie Spigarelli, president of the American Sign Language club, said the event was an eye-opener to people who are not familiar with the hearing impaired.

"Many people don't know that some deaf people are part of a culture within American culture or even that ASL is a real language," Spigarelli said.

Students who attended the event received a flier, which contained a schedule and could earn them a free Deaf World shirt if ...
