(The Shorthorn) (U-WIRE) ARLINGTON, Texas -- This is the fifth summer anthropology Associate Professor Jeffery Hanson has led his students into the ground.

Anthropology students have been excavating areas of a pasture in Village Creek, west of Arlington, unearthing artifacts belonging to historical North Texas inhabitants.

Hanson's course, Anthropology 4698, offered the first summer session, provides hands-on experience in archaeological fieldwork.

Hanson chose the site because the landowner showed him some arrowheads she found on her neighbor's property.

"The hard part is figuring out if they (the objects) got put there or blown there," Hanson said.
