Vic: Govt sought legal advice on pokies bail-out plan

MELBOURNE, April 20 AAP - The Victorian government has been secretly seeking legal
advice on whether taxpayers should fund a massive payout to Tabcorp and Tatts.

With the duopoly held by the gambling operators set to end when the industry is overhauled
in 2012, documents reveal the government has sought legal advice for the past five years
on whether it would have to pay compensation, The Sunday Age reports today.

The compensation could reach as much as $1 billion.

While Premier John Brumby has previously said the government had not had legal advice,
