Profit increases at NTT, but downturn expected

The Japanese telecommunications company Nippon Telegraph & Telephone, or NTT, said Tuesday that its group net profit jumped 32 percent for the 2007-08 fiscal year on booming long distance and international communications earnings, and pension savings.
NTT's profit for the fiscal year ended March rose to yen635.16 billion, or $6.12 billion, from yen481.37 billion in the year earlier period.
