Fed: Elective surgery waiting time up four days since 2002-03

CANBERRA, May 30 AAP - Half the people on hospital elective surgery lists wait longer
than one month for treatment, with those needing eye surgery waiting more than 70 days,
a new report shows.

The report, released by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) today,
reveals the average waiting time for treatment in a public hospital was 32 days in 2006-07,
a jump of four days since 2002-03.

Some 557,000 people underwent elective surgery in public hospitals in 2006-07, with
the shortest average waiting time 12 ...
