Fed: Digital downloads to make up half music market
By Katherine Field
SYDNEY, June 18 AAP - Music download sales are set to top the $100 million mark in
Australia this financial year and in five years will make up more than half of the market,
a new report predicts.
According to research analysts IBISWorld, the number of digital downloads is set to
accelerate over the next few years and, worryingly, record labels are not equipped to
deal with the change.
Legal music downloads currently account for 20 per cent of music sales in Australia.
But IBISWorld predicts that in the next five years they will make up more than half
of all music sales.
