VIC: Pay rise means little for those at the coalface

MELBOURNE, July 8 AAP - While politicians, industry and unions bicker about the impact
of today's minimum wage rise, those at the coalface know every cent counts.

Mark Ebic works as a housekeeper at the four-and-a-half star Sebel hotel in Melbourne
and says the $21.66 a week pay rise will have little impact on the family budget.

"We were expecting only around about $13, $21 does help a little bit," he says.

"It will help with public transport, plus with a little bit of petrol and of course
with the food and mortgage and everything else which is very hard at the moment."
