FED: "Sticky" malaria parasite comes unstuck

SYDNEY, July 9 AAP - Australian scientists have revealed how the malaria parasite "sticks"
to organs to infect the body in a breakthrough that offers new hope in tackling the killer
disease.
Malaria is rife in tropical nations where it kills three million people a year and
infects a further 600 million.
Efforts to develop a vaccine have so far failed and malaria parasites are evolving
resistance to current drug treatments, suggesting that a new strategy is needed to combat
the disease.
