FED: Breast self-checks do more harm than good: study

SYDNEY, July 17 AAP - Women who regularly check their breasts for lumps do not decrease
their chance of dying from breast cancer, according to research showing it may do more
harm than good.
An international review, which found no evidence that self-examinations reduce breast
cancer deaths, has been touted as the nail in the coffin for the practice.
But Australian breast cancer experts say the results do not mean women should stop
paying attention to breast changes while dressing or showering as many cancers are detected
this way.
