Yuan trade is no longer politically taboo for Taiwan, but allowing over-the-counter foreign exchange business is merely a small step toward becoming a trading center for the Chinese currency.
Under its new president, Ma Ying-jeou, Taiwan is keen to expand business ties with its largest trading partner and has been implementing a series of measures to improve relations with the booming mainland.
