Article: Hoop dreams are OK, just not in the street Question: This is a question for AnswerLine: Does the city of Elgin have an ordinance regarding portable basketball hoops? I recently attended a family get-together on the east side of Elgin. One home in the 400 block of Illinois Avenue places their hoop on the edge of where their driveway and street meets, thus turning the entire street into their court. This to me seems very dangerous, as the people observed were aged between 5 and 40. But also, this is an annoyance to drivers and neighbors. Maybe the city or police can put a stop to this. Thanks. Answer: City ordinance prohibits erecting basketball hoops on the street. If citizens have concerns they can call police commuications and officers will follow up on any complaints.
