Qld: Koalas come back to haunt state government

BRISBANE, Aug 8 AAP - They are Queensland's official faunal emblem and are so loved
they almost cost a past state government an election.
Now environmentalists are hoping the koala will rear its fluffy grey head again, and
bring the government's environmental record back to haunt it when Queenslanders go to
the polls next year.
Premier Anna Bligh this week delivered frightening news for fans of the marsupial -
they could disappear from the state's fast-growing southeast within 20 years.
