WASHINGTON, Dec. 19 (IPS) -- One year after the collapse of the
Mexican peso, the World Bank is putting the finishing touches on
new plans for the country, including cuts of almost a billion
dollars in already-approved environment and urban projects.
At the same time, the Bank is proposing that more money be put
into the country's troubled banking sector and export-oriented
infrastructure projects.
Internal documents obtained by IPS show that the Bank wants to
cut almost $600 million in loans for activities like safe water
projects and municipal garbage collection. The Bank also intends
to cut $230 million in loans for highway ...
