MALAYSIA'S benchmark stock index may fall below the 1,000-point mark to levels unseen since October 2006, say two foreign research houses.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) closed last Friday at 1,044.03 points.
"The market is going through pain not felt since the Asian crisis ... watch out for further earnings per share (EPS) cuts and waning consumer spending. We think the worst is not yet over," Teoh Su- Yin, a market strategist at Deutsche Bank, wrote in a report on Friday.
