Statement of Edward Sproat Director, Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste
Management U.S. Department of Energy Committee on Senate Commerce, Science
and Transportation September 24, 2008 Mr. Chairman and Members of the Committee,
I am Edward F. Sproat III, Director of the Department of Energy`s (DOE)
Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management (OCRWM). I appreciate the
invitation to appear before the Committee to discuss the safety and security
of transporting spent nuclear fuel. Since the early 1960s, more than 3,000
shipments of spent nuclear fuel have been conducted safely and securely
in the United States, having traveled more than 1.7 million miles. ...
