Qld: North Queensland wants new funding deal

BRISBANE, Oct 2 AAP - An alliance of north Queensland local councils claim their region
is massively short-changed as both state and federal governments subsidise "southern city
lifestyles".

The Greater North Queensland Development Alliance is a newly-formed coalition of councils
stretching north and west from Mackay.

It has released research today claiming the region contributes $2 billion a year to
the national economy, but the Commonwealth returns, on average, 29 per cent less than
that.
