Qld: Junk mail is just legalised littering, council says

BRISBANE, Oct 13 AAP - A Queensland mayor has declared war on junk mail, likening it
to legalised littering and threatening prosecutions.

Ipswich mayor Paul Pisasale said today the council was cracking down on distributors
of catalogue advertising who leave junk mail on footpaths, front lawns, in parks and in
creek beds.

Mr Pisasale said the council would consider prosecutions unless the distributors of
junk mail and several free newspapers in Ipswich, a city adjoining Brisbane's western
suburbs, ensured it ended up in the letterboxes of residents who wanted it.
