This is Talk of the Nation. I'm Neal Conan in Washington. The finish line is in sight a week from today. Americans vote in a new president, but as breathless pundits handicap the polls and the electoral vote, we want to fast forward to January. A new president surveys the state of the country and the world and finds a bit of a mess - the global financial crisis, a deep recession, wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, a resurgent Iran and Russia, an Israeli-Palestinian peace process at square one, and oh, yeah, that bin Laden problem.
