When Teaneck officials decided in 1973 to transfer Emerson School Principal William Harrison, parents and students crowded a Board of Education meeting to protest the move.
"All the kids think he's the best, and we don't want to lose him," one 8-year-old said.
Thirteen years later, Mr. Harrison by then principal of Longfellow School inspired another protest. Faculty and students came to a board meeting to ask Mr. Harrison not to retire.
