Starters is a first look at recently opened restaurants. It is meant to be a descriptive glimpse, not a critical review.
For 26 years Evangelos Rizos went to work every day as a dining captain at the Palm Court, in the stained-glass lobby of the Plaza Hotel. When the hotel sold, he took a lump severance and reached for his dream of opening his own restaurant in Fort Lee, Santorini Taverna, named for the exotic, volcanic Greek island.
"It's my dream my life," he said.
