China Most Beef Cattle Slaughters Lost in 08

BEIJING, Feb 20, 2009 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Beef cattle slaughtering and processing companies in China suffered losses at large, in spite of a more than 50% growth in beef prices in 2008, according to a survey report by the China Animal Agriculture Association (CAAA).

The losses are mainly attributed to the lack of beef cattle supplies and operating rate.

Beef prices continued rising at the beginning of last year and the prices ever reached CNY 29.5 a kilogram, a year-on-year leap of about 50%, shows a report by CAAA cattle branch.
