West Indies ended a run of five years without winning a test match series as it held off England amid excruciating tension in Trinidad on the final day of the five-test series.
Its hero at the end on Tuesday was Denesh Ramdin, its wicket keeper and vice captain. He played an innings in complete contradiction of all the calypso cliches about West Indian cricket. Ramdin batted for more than two hours and faced 87 deliveries, from which he scored only 17 runs.
