A van full of 31 puppies and dogs from the Waveland Animal Shelter in Mississippi arrived in Maine on May 24, and some are still waiting to be adopted.
They are available for adoption at the Animal Welfare Society in Kennebunk and the Coastal Humane Society in Brunswick. The Animal Refuge League in Westbrook had one puppy left Tuesday afternoon, and that one most likely found a new home.
The puppies and dogs were left homeless because of Hurricane Katrina and would have been euthanized if the transport had not taken place.
