NSW: Health Minister defends surgery waiting list

SYDNEY, June 6 AAP - NSW Health Minister John Della Bosca has defended the state's
longest hospital waiting lists in four years, saying waiting times are more important.

The latest health department figures show 62,890 people were waiting for surgery in
public hospitals in the March quarter, the worst since mid-2005, the Sun-Herald reports.

But Mr Della Bosca said waiting times were a better performance indicator.

He said the average wait was 2.66 months, compared to 2.75 ...
