Nurses, hospital hit impasse -- Union calls for strike over contract issue

Englewood Hospital and Medical Center and the union representing 650 nurses were ordered back to the bargaining table late Tuesday in a last-ditch effort to avert a strike or lockout.

After negotiations stalled all day, state labor officials urged both sides to resume negotiations over salary, added staffing and other sticking points.

The two sides had only a precious few hours left before the contract expired at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday.
