United Industrial Corp., a Russian manufacturer, said in the past week that the world's first floating nuclear power plant would go into operation off the eastern coast of Russia by the end of 2012.
The manufacturer, also known as O.P.K., told Green Inc. that the first model would be used to help power Vilyuchinsk, a city on the Kamchatka Peninsula that serves as a base for nuclear-powered submarines.
O.P.K. said similar models could power other cities in northern Russia in the future. But ...
