China to Curb Import of Dairy Products

BEIJING, Jul 17, 2009 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- At a time when domestic dairy product makers are grappling with mounting stockpiles, the Chinese government on July 15 issued a directive requiring importers of diary products to apply for permits from the Ministry of Commerce starting August 1 in a move to put a brake on the rising level of imports.

Latest numbers from the customs house show that China exported 14,000 tons of dairy products in the first four months of the year, worth up to USD 29.94 million, down 63.7% and 64.7% from the corresponding period one year ago.
