NSW: Police pay rise is within budget, treasurer says

SYDNEY, Aug 29 AAP - The NSW government says a pay rise for police officers is within
the state's budget and denies rushing the negotiations to stop a mass protest.

NSW Police Association president Bob Pritchard says the union's executive has agreed
to a two-year deal that would give the state's 15,700 officers a four per cent increase
over both the 2010 and 2011 financial years.

Police wanted double the 2.5 per cent wage rise offered earlier by the government but
rejected a proposed trade-off in which they would lose some entitlements.
