Something of a bombshell was dropped into the Israeli art world last week when the Israel Museum announced the resignation of director Dr. Martin Weyl, the man who turned it into Israel's largest and most prestigious cultural institution.
Holland-born Weyl, 55, a Holocaust survivor, has been with the museum for over 26 years, first as curator of sculpture, then chief curator in cooperation with an administrator and, for the last 15 years, director.
