Qld: Fish are best angle for dam busters

BRISBANE, Sept 17 AAP - Two turtles, two fish and several migratory shorebirds could
hold the key to stopping a billion dollar-plus dam in Queensland.
Federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett will soon consider whether the $1.5 billion
Traveston Crossing Dam, near the southern Queensland town of Gympie, should go ahead.
A decision is expected as early as November.
Mr Garrett's pending role in the continuing saga comes after the state government completed
its draft assessment of the dam's social, economic and environmental impacts on the area
known locally as the Mary Valley.
