WA: WA govt to adopt coroner's death in custody recommendation
PERTH, Sept 29 AAP - The West Australian government has accepted more than a dozen
recommendations made by the coroner over the death in custody of an Aboriginal elder who
was virtually cooked alive inside a prison van.
WA Coroner Alastair Hope made 14 wide-ranging recommendations into the treatment of
prisoners in June following the death of Mr Ward in January last year.
Attorney-General Christian Porter says the WA government has accepted all of Mr Hope's
findings in principle and a number of measures will be implemented to try to avoid similar
deaths.
