MILESTONES:
DEAD - Four Australians and one Australian permanent resident after a tsunami, triggered
by an 8.3 magnitude earthquake, hit Samoa and American Samoa. The death toll from a 7.6
magnitude earthquake off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, has exceeded 1,100 and could
be in the thousands.
REVEALED - By federal Treasurer Wayne Swan, a $5 billion improvement in the budget
deficit for the past financial year.
