Soc: No Aussies as Japan heads race for AFC Player of the Year

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 AFP - Footballers from Indonesia, Syria and even the Maldives have
been nominated to become AFC Player of the Year - but there's no room for any Australians
on the shortlist.

Australia, who went through their Asian qualifying group undefeated to make the 2010
World Cup, are not represented amongst the 15 players, nor are fellow Asian heavyweights
South Korea.

Japan has three candidates in the running.

The Asian Football Confederation bases its choices on a weighted ranking system which
takes into account Most Valuable Player nominations at key Asian Football ...
