THE Petroleum Authority of Thailand has not been able to convince the
Burmese government to adjust the gas sales contract for the Yadana Gas
project, a senior executive said.

PTT executives recently flew to Rangoon to try to renegotiate the
Yadana gas contract as it has been unable to consume natural gas at an
agreed volume. Delay in the construction of a gas-fired power plant in
Ratchaburi which would take the gas and lower electricity demand are major
reasons which influenced PTT to ask for the amendment of the Yadana gas
contract.

PTT vice president Vichit Yambunruang said the contract amendment
could not be made since it did not fit the Force Majeure condition ...
