UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 8 (IPS) -- An influential right-wing U.S.
Senator is magnanimously offering to host a farewell party for the
United Nations if the world body agrees to leave New York -- for
good.
"I disagree with the premises upon which the United Nations is
built and with the illusion that it propagates," Senator Jesse
Helms, chairman of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee,
says in a letter to the World Federalist Association.
"It would be one thing if the United Nations were just an
international side show, but it plays a greater role. It is a vast
