Tropical storm forms in Gulf

MIAMI, Sept. 9 (UPI) _ Tropical Storm Frances has formed with winds of
40 mph (65 kph) in the northwest Gulf of Mexico, and a tropical storm
warning was issued for the coast from Tampico, Mexico, to High Island,
Texas.

A tropical storm warning means tropical storm conditions are expected
within the next 24 hours. Small craft were warned to remain in port
from High Island to the mouth of the Mississippi River.

At 5 p.m. EDT today, Tropical Storm Frances was located at latitude
25.6 north, longitude 94.7 west, or about 170 miles (275 km) east of
Brownsville, Texas.
