Calcium may reduce colon cancer

CHICAGO, Sept. 21 (UPI) _ Scientists are recommending that people drink
their milk after a study showing that calcium in dairy foods may cut
the chances of getting colon cancer.
In a study of 70 people at high risk of the disease, scientists from
New York's St. Lukes/ Roosevelt Hospital Center found that consuming
more milk, cheese and yogurt reduced the number of colon cells showing
early signs of cancer.
Gastroenterologist Peter Holt, who led the research, says his team
focused on biomarkers, early signs of cancer that occur years before
the disease can be detected.
