At first, the minister's words sound surprising.
"I would prefer, actually, that people not come to church," said the Rev. Denise Westfall-Neuschwander.
Then the Battle Ground United Methodist Church pastor clears things up: "I would prefer that they come to worship."
Whether it's church or worship, many do go. But more don't.
Washington state is one of the least "churched" regions of the nation. About 33 percent of state residents consider themselves members of a church, attending at least once or twice a month.
In Clark County, that means about 100,000 people attend church at least a few times each month, while about 200,000 stay home.
