Janeane Garofalo, Joaquin Phoenix, Vince Vaughn - this is the stuff casting dreams are made of. The trio take the clay of this movie - which is two steps above common, but not to the caliber of its actors - and shape "Clay Pigeons" into a creation the film wasn't intended to be.

Instead, it's better and smarter.

Not smart enough, but with enough redeeming qualities for me to recommend this film, which I'll describe as not-quite-noir, not-quite-horror, not-quite-"Fargo." But not-quite-"Fargo" is ...
