Panthers waive QB Kerry Collins

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Oct. 13 (UPI) _ After failing to find a taker for
disgruntled quarterback Kerry Collins before Tuesday's NFL trade
deadline, the Carolina Panthers waived the player who was the
franchise's first-ever draft pick back in 1995.

Since Collins shockingly requested to be removed as the team's starting
quarterback last Wednesday, the Panthers actively shopped him. But
those attempts proved fruitless with Collins in the final year of his
current contract.

Collins may now be claimed by another NFL team, which would then pick
up the remainder of his contract worth $1.15 million. If Collins is not
