Former separatist floats new political party
A former Kashmiri separatist leader last week floated a political party in what has been interpreted as a step toward joining mainstream politics. It is also a move that has caused some concern in the ruling National Conference (NC) of Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah and considerable consternation among militants' groups.
Angry secessionist outfits have slammed Shabir Ahmad Shah's new Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) and his offer of talks with the Indian government as a betrayal of the "sacrifices of tens of thousands of Kashmiri youth."
