HARARE, Oct. 30 (IPS) -- South Africa may not be the land of
"milk and honey," yet Zimbabweans still risk everything including
their lives to go there and get a job.
Each day, at least one Zimbabwean illegally enters South Africa
in search of employment, competing with the four million South
Africans out of work. An estimated 350,000 also enter the job
market every year.
The unemployment problem in South Africa is so severe that a
"Jobs Summit" was convened in Johannesburg this week, the first
ever since President Nelson Mandela became president in 1994, to
find ways of creating jobs.
