High blood pressure alert sounded

DALLAS, Nov. 8 (UPI) _ A top national health official sounded ``a call
to action,'' telling U.S. doctors to aggressively treat people with
high blood pressure in order to continue progress in fighting heart
disease and stroke.

Dr. Claude Lenfant, director of the National Heart, Lung and Blood
Institute in Bethesda, Md., said despite three decades of steady
success, there is a disturbing trend in the wrong direction, which
Lenfant ties to failures in adequately identifying and treating people
with high blood pressure.
