HOLLYWOOD (UPI) _ Cher, actress-singer-comedienne, will open next
year's Super Bowl festivities by singing ``The Star Spangled Banner.''
Her appearance is the latest chapter in the long romance between
Hollywood and American sports.
Almost since the beginning of ancient black-and-white flicks, American
sports heroes were the subject of movies _ from Jim Thorpe and Babe
Ruth to George Gyp, Gayle Sayers and Michael Jordan.
