UNITED NATIONS (AP) _ The United States signed the Kyoto convention on climate change Thursday and reaffirmed its commitment to work with countries around the world to meet the challenge of global warming.
The agreement calls for sharp reductions in heat-trapping greenhouse gases by the United States and 37 other industrial nations.
``We are guided by the firm belief that signing will serve our environmental, economic, and national security goals,'' Deputy U.S. Ambassador Peter Burleigh said after signing the convention at the United Nations.
